Feature reports on the ongoing discussion in the EU Institutions as to the future role of the Troika (made up of representatives of the European Commission, International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank) and its handling of the bailouts affecting Cyprus, Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

EUObserver reported on comments by the current Economics Commissioner Pierre Moscovici on the 19 January 2015, who said that 'the troika should be replaced with a more democratically legitimate and more accountable structure based around European institutions with enhanced parliamentary control'.

The 14 January 2015 Opinion of the Advocate General in ECJ Case C-62/14 Peter Gauweiler and Others v Deutscher Bundest was also cited as further necessitating reform of the Troika governance process.
