Report of an opinion poll conducted by the Allensbach Institute [Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach] and published in September 2010 on attitudes across Germany to the unification of the country in 1989.

According to the Deutsche Welle report, after two decades of being at the receiving end of massive financial aid and pro-active government policies, Germany's former communist east is still lagging behind the economic power of more prosperous western Germany, although the gap is gradually closing, according to the German government's annual state of unification report also published in September 2010.
