A Dutch civil court in The Hague ordered on the 16 July 2014 the Netherlands to compensate the families of more than 300 men turned over to Bosnian Serb forces and later killed in the Srebrenica massacre in July 1995. The ruling is harsh but fair, some commentators wrote. Others put the blame on the United Nations, which had declared Srebrenica a safe area. In October 2014 the Dutch state said it would appeal against the court ruling. |
