Copenhagen police reported on the 15 February 2015 that they had shot dead a man who opened fire on officers hours after two people were killed and five wounded in twin shootings in the Danish capital on the 14 February 2015.

The man shot dead by policy was believed to have opened fire on a free speech event at a cafe and a Copenhagen synagogue.

Lars Vilks - the Swedish artist whose controversial Prophet Mohammed cartoon sparked worldwide protests in 2007 - had been among the speakers at the free speech event.

In a statement released on the 15 February 2015, Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called the two shootings an act of terror.
