Denmark's prime minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen announced on 4 January 2016 the country was set to impose temporary border controls at its southern border with Germany. The decision came as a result of Sweden's move to introduce ID checks on its border with Denmark. According to Mr Rasmussen, these checks increased the risk that a large number of illegal immigrants would be 'stranded' in Copenhagen. He added that the border control at the Danish-German border was going be unsystematic and initially for ten days, with the possibility of an extension. |
