Article reports that the Czech government told the European Union on the 13 October 2009 that it hoped to ensure ratification of the EU's Treaty of Lisbon by drafting a declaration that would satisfy last-minute objections raised by Vaclav Klaus, the Czech President.

The Czech Republic should sign the Treaty and not erect 'artificial obstacles' to ratification, said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
