The office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) is a specialized department of the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia. Established in 2001, USKOK has the mandate to investigate and prosecute corruption based on its establishing legislation. It also has the mandate to direct police investigations and conduct prosecutions in corruption and organized crime cases within its jurisdiction. The Office has intelligence, investigative, prosecutorial and preventive functions and is responsible for international cooperation and exchange of information in complex investigations.Zagreb's long-serving mayor Milan Bandic was reportedly arrested on the 19 October 2014 on suspicion of corruption by the Croatian authorities. Various unnamed high-ranking officials were also detained over activities relating to Zagrebacki Holding, a municipal services company, according to media reports. |
