Ukraine's prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk survived a no-confidence vote in the parliament on 16 February 2015, just hours after president Petro Poroshenko asked him to resign following an alleged loss of public's trust.

The call from Mr Poroshenko came as government was perceived as having failed to fight endemic corruption and overcome a deep economic crisis. However, the motion to oust Mr Yatsenyuk collected only 194 of the required 226 voted in the 450-seat parliament.

The governing coalition eventually collapsed on 18 February 2016, following the decision from two of its parties to leave the coalition. Mr Yatsenyuk would have 30 days to form a new coalition, otherwise early elections would be called.
