Council adopts its negotiating position on a draft proposal regarding the external fishing fleets

The Council of the European Union agreed on 28 June 2016 its general approach regarding a proposal on the sustainable management of external fishing fleets.

The Council agreement struck a balance between the commitment to sustainable and transparent fishing activities outside Union waters, and the need for robust administrative procedures, especially concerning authorisations.

The proposal as released by the European Commission in December 2015, and Council discussions had already taken place in early 2016.
