Hungary's prime minister Viktor Orbán announced on 26 August 2016 plans to build a second fence line on the country's southern border with Serbia. Its aim is to stop any further wave of migrants from coming into the European Union. The decision came weeks before a referendum over the EU’s plan to redistribute migrants among member countries. A government spokesperson announced on 27 February 2017 the construction of the second fence had begun. |
