Conservative candidate wins Polish presidential election

Polish President Bronisław Komorowski conceded defeat to conservative challenger Andrzej Duda following the first exit polls of the second round of the presidential election in Poland on 24 May 2015. Results showed that 53% of the voters had chosen Mr Duda as the next president.

The result set alarm bells ringing for the government, which was set to face its own election race later in 2015. The victory for Mr Duda marked the first major electoral win in almost a decade for his party, the opposition Law and Justice party.
