Summary:

Communication published by the European Commission in July 2016, which sets out a number of measures to tackle the fragmentation of the European Union's cybersecurity market.

Further information:

This Communication was published due to the need to look at ways to address the evolving cybersecurity reality and to assess additional measures that may be necessary to improve the EU's cybersecurity resilience response. Furthermore, the Commission aims at addressing cybersecurity industrial capabilities in the European Union. A strong commitment is needed to achieve both elements, notably through:

  • Stepping up cooperation to enhance preparedness and deal with cyber incidents;
  • Addressing challenges facing Europe’s cybersecurity Single Market;
  • Nurturing industrial capabilities in the field of cybersecurity.

This Communication presents measures aiming to strengthen Europe’s cyber resilience system and to foster a competitive and innovative cybersecurity industry in Europe, as announced in the EU Cybersecurity Strategy and in the Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy. It was published alongside a Decision to establish a contractual public private partnership on cybersecurity (cPPP).
