Summary: Communication published by the European Commission in April 2016, setting out a roadmap for the creation of a EU Security Union and building on the European Agenda on Security. Further information: The aim of this Communication is twofold:
While responsibility for security was down primarily with the EU Member States, it was noted that they cannot address transnational threats effectively acting on their own. An EU-wide approach was needed to build the tools, infrastructure and environment in which national authorities can work together effectively to tackle shared challenges. The Communication takes stock of progress made on the actions under the European Agenda on Security, identifies implementation gaps in the fight against terrorism and sets out the actions the need to be taken to address these gaps. |
