Commissioner visits restoration project in Pompeii and signs Action Plan

The European Union's Commissioner for Regional Policy visited Pompeii on 17 July 2014 to sign an Action Plan with the Italian authorities to accelerate restoration work at the site.

The Action Plan sets down specific measures and targets to complete the project, which is supported by €78 million worth of investment through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The President of the European Commission visited the site in October 2014.

The Pompeii restoration project was approved by the European Commission in March 2012 and officially launched in February 2013.
