Footwear has emerged as one of the most contentious trade issues between China and the EU. Report of comments made by China’s Commerce Minister Chen Denming in Brussels, 8 May 2009, who was said to have issued a veiled warning to Europe’s high-end footwear manufacturers as he sought to convince the European Commission to reverse contentious anti-dumping tariffs against Chinese imports.

The comments took place during the second meeting of the EU-China High Level Trade and Economic Dialogue (HED), between the European Commission and the Chinese government, Brussels, 8 May 2009.
