The European Commission, through its Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO), earmarked a further € 3 million for humanitarian aid to meet emergency needs caused by Hurricane Ivan in Grenada (€ 1.5 million) and tropical storm Jeanne in Haiti (€ 1.5 million), 21 September 2004.

This brought total aid provided so far for victims of the recent storms to € 4.5 million. The focus of the aid shall be on providing the most vulnerable people with emergency shelter, as well as food, drinking water, emergency communication services, hygiene kits and tarpaulins for house roofing. Other interventions could include support for rehabilitating water supplies and sanitation. The aid shall be implemented through ECHO partners working in the region.
