Bulgaria set for snap election as president appoints interim PM

Bulgaria's president called in January 2017 for an early parliamentary election - to be held on 26 March 2017 - and appointed an interim prime minister, Ognyan Gerdzhikov.

The snap election was called following the resignation of the centre-right government after the defeat of its candidate in the presidential election held in November 2016.
