Reports of the ongoing negotiations between Greece and the Troika (European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund) in June 2015 over a renegotiation of its bailout terms and the release of funds. The IMF and ECB negotiating teams withdrew from the Brussels talks on the 11 June 2015. Sources said that officials would only return to Brussels if they were given convincing reassurances of progress in Greece’s position. News sources reported that officials at an Euro Working Group meeting on the 12 June 2015 in Bratislava discussed for the first time the possibility of what would happen if Greece did default on payments. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on the 13 June 2015 that he was willing to accept unpalatable compromises to secure a deal, provided he got debt relief in return. Talks between Greece and its lenders in Brussels ended with no breakthrough on the 14 June 2015. A European Commission spokesperson said 'the talks did not succeed as there remains a significant gap between the plans of the Greek authorities and the joint requirements of the Commission, European Central Bank (ECB) and IMF'. |
