Article discusses the growing realisation in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2016 that the government was struggling to prepare for the negotiations to leave the European Union. Formally, the process would start with the UK government invoking Article 50 Treaty on European Union and 'sources' were quoted as saying that this might not happen until the autumn of 2017. However, a Downing Street spokesperson said: 'The Prime Minister has been clear that a top priority for this government is to deliver the decision of the British people to leave the EU and to make a success of Brexit. The PM has set out the government’s position on Article 50 and has established a new department dedicated to tacking forward the negotiations'. |
