Brexit will not destroy the UK’s financial services sector – the industry will adapt as it always has done – but it will probably lead to a smaller proportion of the total European market being based in London and the UK. The government has been publicly supportive of a deal that protects the UK’s financial services industry, but to achieve this it needs to modify other negotiating aims, and at the same time further ease the regulatory constraints on EU-based institutions operating in the UK.
