Leaders from Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on 16 May 2016 to respect a ceasefire in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, and to restart peace talks in June.

This was the first meeting since fighting erupted in April and it was seen as a rare joint diplomatic victory for the United States and Russia. Armenia and Azerbaijan had been summoned to Vienna by the 'Minsk Group', which comprises Russia, the US and France.
