Arrest of Kosovo’s former prime minister on Serbian warrant

Kosovo's former prime minister Ramush Haradinaj was arrested in France on 4 January 2017 as a result of a Serbian warrant that alleged he had committed war crimes during the 1998-99 conflict in Kosovo.

Mr Haradinaj was a guerrilla commander with the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the war in the territory. This was not the first time that he had been arrested based on similar charges. In 2012, the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia had backed a verdict acquitting Kosovo's former prime minister.
