About 7,000 employees of struggling German retailer Arcandor protested outside the Economics Ministry in Berlin on the 27 May 2009, demanding government help to keep the company afloat.

Economics Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg promised a thorough examination of the company's application for government guarantees.
