Summary: The European Commission announced on 14 March 2018 the mobilisation of additional funding for the Facility for Refugees in Turkey. The tenth Steering Committee meeting of this mechanism met on 19 June to discuss the strategic orientation for the second tranche, as well as the implementation progress of projects on the ground and their impact. Following the political agreement from EU leaders, Member States agreed on 29 June the financing of the additional funding for the scheme. Further information: The decision taken in March 2018 establishes the legal framework for the second tranche of €3 billion, as foreseen in the EU-Turkey Statement, mobilising €1 billion from the EU budget. The first tranche of the Facility was made up of €1 billion from the EU budget and €2 billion from Member States' contributions. Under the EU-Turkey Statement, EU Member States agreed to mobilise an additional €3 billion for the EU Facility for Refugees in Turkey shortly after the available resources had been contracted. The decision follows from this and seeks to ensure that the valuable work of the Facility can continue. + EU-Turkey Statement, March 2016 |
