Ahmed Davutoglu named as new Turkish Prime Minister

Turkey's ruling AKP party nominated Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to replace Recep Tayyip Erdogan as prime minister on the 21 August 2014. Mr Erdogan had been elected to be the new President of Turkey on the 10 August 2014.

A close ally of Mr Erdogan, Mr Davutoglu had held the job of Foreign Minister since 2009. He will also become the chairman of the AKP Party.
