A meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council took place on 15 February 2016. The agenda includes the following topics: + Presentation by the Dutch presidency on its work programme and priorities as regards agriculture and fisheries issues; + Exchange of views on the European Commission's proposal on the sustainable managemente of external fishing fleets; + Debate on animal welfare, based on a position paper prepared by German, Swedish, Danish and Dutch delegations calling for the establishment of a platform within the EU on animal welfare for stakeholders and competent authorities; + Briefing by the European Commission on the state of play on international agricultural trade issues; + Presentation by the European Commission on the state of play of plans to develop a long term strategy for agricultural research; + Briefing on a conference on antimicrobial resistance, African swine fever, the market situation and the difficulties in the milk and pig sectors. During lunch, a discussion took place regarding agricultural markets. |
