On 11 May 2017, the Council of the European Union adopted a regulation on visa liberalisation for Ukrainian citizens travelling to the European Union for a period of stay of 90 days in any 180-day period. The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in April 2016. An informal informal agreement between the Council and the European Parliament was reached in February 2017. The latter officially endorsed the proposal in April 2017. The agreement came into operation on the 11 June 2017. The visa-free scheme allows Ukrainians with a biometric passport to enter the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days. Ukrainians who wanted to work in the EU would still need to obtain a working visa. |
