They had reached an agreement on four of the six chapters in the reunification negotiations and a deal on the reunification of the island was hopefully to be concluded by the end of 2016, according to media reports. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the joint commitment to intensify efforts even further, in line with the stated desire of the leaders of both communities to achieve a comprehensive settlement in 2016. The Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot media, however, disagreed in their evaluation of the results. |
