On 24 February 2014, the leaders of the European Union and the Federative Republic of Brazil met in Brussels for the seventh EU-Brazil Summit to reaffirm their close partnership. They focused on how to use and develop the full potential of their strategic partnership in three key areas of co-operation that are of vital interest to the citizens: first, ensuring strong, balanced and sustainable economic growth and job creation, including in new emerging fields. Second, co-operating more effectively on key foreign policy issues, as well as humanitarian cooperation. Third, how to further the partnership on addressing global challenges they face in areas such as sustainable development, climate change, environment, energy, human rights and international cyber policy. Brazil and the EU agreed to establish a communications network complete with undersea cable between Brazil and Portugal to circumvent the US National Security Agency. |
