2016 EU budget: Council backs prioritisation of expenditure

The Council of the European Union endorsed on 8 November 2016 two proposals adopted by the European Commission to bring the 2016 EU budget in line with the European Union's priorities and needs at the time.

The draft amending budgets provide in particular for additional resources to tackle the migration crisis and enhance security. They also lead to a significant reduction in the payments level in the annual budget, due to delays in the progress of some cohesion funds.
