The 17th bilateral summit between the European Union and China took place on 29 June 2015 in Brussels. The EU was represented by Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission. China was represented by Prime Minister Li Keqiang. + EU-China political and economic relations Leaders reviewed the implementation of the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation, adopted at the last summit in 2013 focusing on: Migration and mobility issues were also on the agenda of the summit, with a discussion on the establishment of a mutual visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders. EU and China were also set to agree on further development of their cooperation on defence and security. They reinforced their commitment to protect and promote human rights. + Global challenges Leaders discussed multilateral cooperation on trade, climate and development issues. + Regional and foreign policy issues Recent developments in the EU's and China's respective neighbourhoods were on the agenda, especially the situation in Ukraine and in South East Asia. Other foreign policy issues addressed at the meeting were: Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and the Korean Peninsula. In the margins of the summit, the 2015 EU-China Urbanisation Partnership Forum also took place. |
