Representatives from the European Union met with US Trade representatives in New York on 25-29 April 2016 for the 13th round of negotiations concerning the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Greenpeace Netherlands released on the 2 May 2016 'secret' documents from the EU-US TTIP negotiations. The 248 leaked pages comprised TTIP negotiating texts, including the US position, and internal EU documents outlining the state of play of the trade talks. However, the European Commission responded that the leaked documents were not a reflection of the current outcome of the negotiations. 'No EU trade agreement will ever lower our level of protection of consumers, or food safety, or of the environment. Trade agreements will not change our laws on GMOs, or how to produce safe beef, or how to protect the environment'. |
